Red Deer is home to some extraordinary people, some of whom were called up on stage tonight at the Mayor’s Recognition Awards, to stand in the spotlight and be thanked for all the great work they do in our community.
The award recipients joined the ranks of the nearly one thousand outstanding citizens who have crossed the stage between 1990 and today.
“These awards are just one opportunity we have each year to acknowledge the many citizens in our city who use their skills, knowledge and talents to strive for excellence, demonstrate leadership and build our community. On behalf of the 100,000 citizens our Council serves, it is a privilege to be able to honour the many youth, men and women who have made, and continue to make, Red Deer proud,” said Mayor Tara Veer.
Awards were handed out to both individuals and groups. They were handed out to people who work hard to make our city a vibrant, healthy community. Athletes, volunteers, artists and Red Deerians who give back and do some great things in our city, were all on the list of award recipients.
A special nod was handed out to the 2016 Memorial Cup Organizing Committee with the Mayor’s Special Award – the highest recognition given by The City of Red Deer. Thirty-four members of the 2016 Memorial Cup Organizing Committee received a Mayor’s Special Award for their outstanding leadership, volunteerism and contribution to the community for their work in organizing the Memorial Cup hockey tournament in Red Deer.
Other award categories included the following:
- Community Builder
