City Council accepted and ratified a new collective agreement with the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), the union representing more than 200 emergency services personnel.
The new collective agreement includes a reduction in overtime provisions from a two-hour minimum to 30-minute intervals for extension of shifts, and shift differential compensation. The agreement also includes wage increases that are reflective of municipal comparators. The new agreement is from July 1, 2019, to December 31, 2022. Four wage increases are included in the new agreement: July 1, 2019 (1%), July 1, 2020 (2%), December 31, 2021 (2%) and December 31, 2022 (2%). Members will receive retroactive pay for previous year adjustments:
The previous agreement expired on June 30, 2019, however, COVID and the overall operational capacity of all involved in the negotiations, were significant factors in negotiation delays resulting in an agreement not being able to be finalized until now.
