Red Deer RCMP on scene at unfolding incident in Anders – Update 2

Red Deer, Alberta – Red Deer RCMP continue to investigate an assault in the Anders neighbourhood Tuesday afternoon that sent a 23 year old man to hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and non-serious injuries from a machete, and are looking for public assistance to identify the suspect.

At approximately 12:15 pm on September 12, the victim surprised the suspect breaking into the victim’s garage and the two struggled. The suspect was carrying a short-barrel small calibre firearm and a machete, and the victim suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his back and a number of cuts in the struggle.

The suspect is described as:

  • Aboriginal male
  • 5’8” to 5’10” tall
  • Early 20s
  • 140 – 160 lbs, thin build
  • Sunken face
  • Black hair that fell above his shoulders
  • Wearing a black hat, a blue turtleneck compression shirt under a black zip-up hoodie, baggy faded blue jeans and skate shoes
  • Carrying a short barrel firearm with a light coloured wood stock and a black strap

RCMP are investigating whether this incident is related to a shooting the afternoon of September 11 in which a victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being shot with a small calibre weapon in an alley in downtown Red Deer. It was unclear from that victim’s injuries if the weapon was a BB gun or a small calibre rifle. That suspect was described as possibly Aboriginal, wearing a black hoodie with the hood up.

If you have information about either investigation, contact the Red Deer RCMP at 403-343-5575. If you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or report it online. If your information leads to an arrest, you could be eligible for a cash reward up to $2,000.
