Red Deer RCMP investigate shots fired in residential area – Update #3 – Cummings arrested

Red Deer, Alberta – 25 year old Kareem Lujmea Cummings turned himself in to Red Deer RCMP yesterday afternoon; he was wanted on a number of outstanding warrants regarding the incident in Riverside Meadows on January 18 in which shots were fired and bullets struck several residences and vehicles.

Cummings faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Code 244(a) – Wound with intent with a firearm
  • Criminal Code 95(1) – Possess loaded restricted firearm
  • Criminal Code 86(1) – Careless use of a firearm
  • Criminal Code 88(1) – Possess handgun for dangerous purpose
  • Criminal Code 90(1) – Carry concealed weapon
  • Criminal Code 430(4) – Mischief under $5,000 X 4
  • Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with conditions

A court date has not yet been set for Cummings’ first appearance.

Red Deer RCMP investigate shots fired in residential area – Update #2 – Warrant issued

Red Deer, Alberta – Red Deer RCMP have issued a warrant for the arrest of 25 year old Kareem Lujmea Cummings regarding the January 18 incident in the Riverside Meadows neighbourhood when shots were fired by several suspects in what police believe was a targeted incident. The man and woman who were taken into custody during the initial investigation on January 18 were subsequently released, and Red Deer RCMP continue to investigate.

Kareem Cummings is wanted on numerous weapons charges including discharging a firearm and is described as:

  • Black
  • 6’ tall
  • 250 lbs
  • Brown eyes
  • Dark brown hair
  • Often seen with short facial hair
  • May have an injury to one of his legs

Citizens are warned not to approach Cummings if they see him; instead, please contact Red Deer RCMP immediately at 403-343-5575. At this point in their ongoing investigations, RCMP do not believe the January 18 investigation is related to the search warrants that were executed at an apartment building in the Riverside Meadows neighbourhood yesterday, which resulted in the RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit attending to disassemble a homemade device.

January 19, 2018

Red Deer RCMP investigate shots fired in residential area – Update #1

Red Deer, Alberta – Red Deer RCMP continue to investigate an incident in which shots were fired in the Riverside Meadows neighbourhood at 10:30 pm Thursday night, in what police believe was a targeted incident.

The incident occurred at an apartment building at 59 Street and 55 Avenue in Red Deer; several units, nearby residences and vehicles were damaged by bullets but no innocent bystanders were injured.

RCMP took a 44 year old man and a 37 year old woman into custody at the scene and conducted an intensive search, assisted by Police Dog Services, for several more suspects seen fleeing the area. RCMP continue to search for two or three suspects, one or more of whom may have received a gunshot wound.

The investigation is ongoing as RCMP continue to gather evidence, surveillance footage and witness statements. BACKGROUND:

January 18, 2018

RCMP Red Deer Detachment – Shot Fired Within Residential Area

Red Deer, Alberta – The RCMP Red Deer Detachment, along with the assistance of the Red Deer Detachment General Investigation Section and RCMP Police Dog Service have responded to a complaint within the Riverside Meadows neighbourhood of a shots fired complaint.

Initial reports indicate that a person or persons may have been injured during the altercation, and at this point, the suspects remain at large.  Information related to the preliminary investigation leads investigators to believe this is not a random incident.

The RCMP continue to investigate, and at this time, this is believed to be an isolated incident with no further risk to the public.

Updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
