Red Deer RCMP remind drivers to check registration expiry dates

August 24, 2016 4:25 PM

Red Deer, Alberta – Red Deer RCMP have encountered a number of drivers with expired vehicle registrations or expired driver’s licenses recently, and would like to remind the public how easy it is to sign up for reminders about upcoming expiry dates, and the potential consequences for driving with expired documentation.

Alberta drivers who wish to receive external reminders of upcoming registration and driver’s license renewal dates are able to sign up to receive those via text message or email at http://www.e-registry.ca/.

“It is every driver’s responsibility to know when their vehicle registration or driver’s license expires and to renew them in the appropriate time frames, but the registry website offers a handy reminder for those who may forget to check the expiry dates on their documentation,” says Cst. Evan MacLeod of the Red Deer RCMP. “Because we’ve encountered a number of drivers recently with expired documentation, RCMP want to remind the public that this great service is available.”

Under the Traffic Safety Act, driving an unregistered motor vehicle or one with an expired license plate, or driving without a valid driver’s license, will each result in a $310 fine.
