Red Deer RCMP investigate armed robbery at Cheers pub

Red Deer, Alberta – Red Deer RCMP are investigating an armed robbery that took place at Cheers pub in Riverside Meadows yesterday afternoon, and are looking for public assistance to identify the man who wielded a firearm at staff.

At about 4:15 pm, the suspect entered Cheers pub carrying a hand gun and demanded cash from the staff.

He was seen getting into the passenger side of a white Astro van that was waiting outside, idling with the passenger door open. The van was later found abandoned in the alley behind 59 Avenue in the Highland Green neighbourhood; it had been stolen from a parking lot in Gasoline Alley on January 30.

The suspect is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • 5’10” – 5’11” tall
  • Slim build 
  • Wearing a dark hoodie, dark mask and dark sunglasses, carrying a black leather bag with a long strap

RCMP will issue an update if surveillance images become available.
