Red Deer RCMP seize drugs and cash in search warrant – Update – Third man charged

Red Deer, Alberta – A third man has been charged after an RCMP search warrant at a Red Deer residence on January 22 yielded more than 300 grams of cocaine and meth and more than $35,000 cash.

32 year old Steven Kenneth Nicholson of Lloydminster faces the following charges:

  • CDSA 5(2) – Possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
  • Criminal Code 355(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000

Nicholson will appear in Alberta Provincial Court in Red Deer on March 22 at 9:30 am.

22 year old Damon Rhys Meidinger of Red Deer and 23 year old Justin Davis Yakimchuk of Blackfalds were charged by RCMP in January in relation to this incident.

Red Deer RCMP seize drugs and cash in search warrant

Red Deer, Alberta – Three men face drug charges after an RCMP search warrant at a Clearview Ridge residence yielded more than 300 grams of cocaine and meth and more than $35,000 cash.

Red Deer RCMP began their investigation into this drug trafficking operation on January 14 and executed the search warrant on January 22 at 2:20 pm with support from Innisfail RCMP. Police seized approximately 217 grams of cocaine, 48.9 grams of methamphetamine and almost $2,100 cash. Two men who were in the residence were taken into custody without incident.

While RCMP were searching the residence, a third man entered carrying approximately 111 grams of cocaine; he was also arrested without incident and those drugs, as well as $33,547 in cash, were seized from his possession.

22 year old Damon Rhys Meidinger of Red Deer faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Code 354(1)(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • CDSA 5(2) – Possession for the purpose of trafficking X 2

Meidinger was released on a recognizance and will appear in Alberta Provincial Court in Red Deer on January 28 at 9:30 am.

23 year old Justin Davis Yakimchuk of Blackfalds faces the following charges:

  • Criminal Code 354(1)(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • CDSA 5(2) – Possession for the purpose of trafficking X 2

Yakimchuk has been remanded in custody and will appear in Alberta Provincial Court in Red Deer on January 28 at 9:30 am.

The third man, a 32 year old male from Lloydminster, also faces similar charges; his name will be released once those charges have been sworn before the courts.

“As members of the Priority Crimes Task Force, our focus continues to be on targeting these active traffickers who are crossing jurisdictions in their criminal activity, and putting them before the courts,” says Sgt. Eric McKenzie of the Red Deer RCMP. “We are pleased to have effected another significant disruption in the illegal drug trade in the area.”
