Red Deer RCMP make series of property crimes arrests

Red Deer, Alberta – Red Deer RCMP have been busy locating and arresting a number of suspects in property crimes recently, many of whom were also wanted on outstanding warrants.

The morning of April 30, Red Deer RCMP arrested two men and a female youth in a truck with a stolen license plate after a traffic stop. During the arrests, RCMP discovered drugs on one suspect, a concealed pellet gun on another, and that several of them were wanted on a number of outstanding warrants. A fourth man was released without charges.

26 year old Dustin Bryce Finlay was wanted on seven outstanding warrants out of Edmonton for possession of a controlled substance, theft under $5,000, resisting arrest, failing to comply with conditions and three failures to appear in court. He was remanded in custody and will face further charges with regard to the events of April 30.

A second man faces a Criminal Code charge for carrying a concealed weapon; that charge has not been sworn before the courts yet.

The female youth, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was wanted on three warrants out of Olds for possession of stolen property (1) and failure to appear in court (2).

Shortly after 1 am on May 1, Red Deer RCMP located a white Ford truck that had been reported stolen out of Red Deer on April 26. Police initiated a traffic stop in the Garden Heights neighbourhood and took the driver of the stolen truck into custody without incident. The man faces a charge of possession of stolen property; that charge has not been sworn before the courts yet.

On May 3, Red Deer RCMP located a blue Nissan Sentra that had been reported stolen out of Red Deer on April 24. The parked vehicle was occupied by a man and a woman, who were taken into custody without incident.

26 year old Cody Travis Link has been charged with:

  • Criminal Code 355(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Criminal Code 129(a) – Resists/ obstructs police officer

Link was also wanted on warrants out of Calgary and Sylvan Lake. He was released on bail and will appear in court in Red Deer on May 24 at 9:30 am.

The female passenger will face a charge of breach of probation; that charge has not been sworn before the courts yet.

Shortly after 9 am on May 7, RCMP responded to a report of truck that was driving erratically, at some points into oncoming traffic. The Ford F250 had been stolen out of Blackfalds on May 2; police located it in a parking lot in north Red Deer and arrested the driver as he attempted to abandon the truck and flee on foot.

25 year old James Kenneth Riley has been charged with:

  • Criminal Code 355(a) – Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Criminal Code 129(a) – Resists/ obstructs police officer
  • Criminal Code 249(1)(a) – Dangerous operation of motor vehicle

Riley will appear in court in Red Deer on May 10 at 8:30 am. RCMP continue to investigate.

Shortly after 2:30 am on May 9, RCMP located a stolen truck as it drove through the city; police followed it and conducted a traffic stop once the vehicle had parked. The female driver and a male passenger were arrested without incident. The truck had been stolen out of Innisfail on May 2.

A 36 year old Red Deer woman and a 28 year old Red Deer man both face charges of possession of stolen property and possession of crystal meth for the purpose of trafficking; the charges have not been sworn before the courts yet.
