Red Deer, Alta. – On Sept. 17, 2023 at 9:07 p.m., Red Deer RCMP were called to 4217 50 Ave. to assist with a pedestrian collision.
RCMP continue their investigation with the assistance of the RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst, and the General Investigation Section.
The 32-year-old, male pedestrian from Red Deer, died as a result of his injuries. The victims name will not be released.
As a result of the on-going investigation, RCMP have charged Carter Mather (20), a resident of Red Deer with the following:
- Failure to stop after an accident resulting in death
Mather was held for a judicial interim release hearing and was released to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on Oct. 16, 2023.

On Sept. 17, 2023 at 9:07 p.m., Red Deer RCMP were called to 4217 50 Ave. to assist with a collision between a pedestrian and motor vehicle.
RCMP arrived to the location and both Fire and EMS were on scene.
Witnesses reported that a vehicle was driving southbound on Gaetz Avenue, when it collided with a pedestrian. The driver of the vehicle fled from the scene.
The 32-year-old, male pedestrian from Red Deer, died as a result of his injuries.
The driver of the vehicle turned themselves into police, and has since been arrested. The driver is pending charges at this time.
Red Deer RCMP continue to investigate the collision.
