Red Deer, Alta. – RCMP have laid charges, including first degree murder, against a 54-year-old male after yesterday’s homicide of a Red Deer physician at the Village Mall Walk-In Clinic.
Deng Mabiour of Red Deer faces the following charges:
- First degree murder
- Assault of a police officer
- Assault with weapon
Mabiour assaulted 45-year-old Walter Reynolds in the Village Mall Walk-In Clinic shortly after 11 a.m. on August 10. Reynolds was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
“This was not a random attack, and the first degree murder charge speaks to the premeditated nature of this incident,” said Supt. Gerald Grobmeier, Officer in Charge of the Red Deer RCMP.
“There were many witnesses and people who acted bravely during this assault, and we encourage anyone to reach out for support as these incidents can be traumatic and difficult to process.”

Mabiour is scheduled to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on August 12.

Red Deer RCMP responding to assault at Village Mall Walk-In Clinic – UPDATE – Homicide
Red Deer, Alta. – The Red Deer RCMP have called in the Major Crimes Unit to take carriage of what has now become an active homicide investigation.
The area has been secured and police have one person in custody. The RCMP have no further public safety concerns in relation to this incident.
An update will be provided when more information is available.

BACKGROUND:
Red Deer RCMP are asking the public to avoid the area of Village Mall (6230 50 Avenue), after an assault with a weapon.
At this time, at least one individual is suffering serious life threatening injuries. One male is in custody. Police are not looking for anyone else and there is no further threat to the public.
The Village Mall Walk-In Clinic remains closed while Red Deer RCMP conduct an investigation.
