January 11, 2022 2:39 PM

Red Deer, Alta. – At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 15, 2021, Red Deer RCMP observed a suspicious white Dodge pickup truck while on patrol of a northern industrial area. When officers attempted to pull over the truck, the driver fled at a high rate of speed.

A short time later, the Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team located the truck parked behind an apartment complex in the Pines neighbourhood, noting that it was still occupied. As officers approached, the male and his female occupant fled from the vehicle. After a brief foot chase, both suspects were arrested.

An investigation revealed the pickup truck was stolen from Lacombe County. Inside the truck, officers found numerous industrial-gauge wires of various sizes and types, as well as batteries. The seized copper wire and batteries weighed a total of approximately 758 pounds.

Kevin Brown, 52, of Red Deer has been charged with:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Obstructing a Peace Officer

The female suspect has not been charged at this time. The investigation is ongoing and further charges are anticipated. Brown was released after a Judicial hearing, and is scheduled to appear at Red Deer Provincial Court on Oct. 15, 2021.
