Know Before You Go

Find out what to expect when dropping in at a City recreation facility.

Swimming
  • Children under the age of eight (8) years must be accompanied by a person 16 years of age or older; maximum of three (3) children to one (1) accompanying person.
  • Children under eight (8) years old must be within arm’s reach of their accompanying person.
  • Individuals who use the pool must have appropriate swim attire as defined in the Aquatics Facilities Use Guidelines (pdf).
  • All children under the age of three (3), or anyone incontinent are required to wear a waterproof pant over a swim diaper.
  • Admission will be refused to anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • People with communicable diseases or infections are not permitted to use the aquatic facility.
  • No glass snorkel masks or goggles permitted.
  • Glass is not allowed on the pool deck, this includes tempered glass goggles and snorkel masks. Glass goggles refer to swimming goggles with lenses made of glass or any other material that can shatter or break into sharp pieces upon impact. The use of glass goggles poses a significant safety risk to individuals in and around the swimming pool area. In the event of accidental breakage, shards of glass could cause serious injuries to swimmers, staff, and other patrons. Patrons are encouraged to use goggles with lenses made of non-breakable materials, such as polycarbonate or plastic. By adhering to this no glass policy, we aim to create a safer and more enjoyable swimming environment for all patrons. Your cooperation and compliance with this policy are greatly appreciated.
Fitness & Wellness Areas including the Walking/Running Track
  • Youth between the ages of 13 and 17 years old require a fitness orientation before using the fitness equipment, running on the track or participating in drop-in fitness classes. Fitness orientations can be booked at the fitness desk, or by phone at:

  • Children under the age of 13 years old may only access the running track and will require the direct supervision (within arm's reach) of a supervisor 16+ years old at the Collicutt Centre & G.H. Dawe Community Centre.
  • Recreation Centre Fitness: Youth ages 16 and 17 years old require a fitness orientation before using the fitness equipment. Fitness orientations can be booked by phone at 403-406-8621. Youth under the age of 16 years are not permitted.
  • Clean indoor shoes must be worn. No bare feet.
  • Personal training/coaching is prohibited.

Skating
  • Children under the age of 8 require the direct supervision of a person 16+ years old.
  • Skate rentals are not available.
  • Helmets are strongly recommended.
  • Must be 18 years of age to participate in adult drop-in hockey and full gear is required.
  • Sticks and pucks are not allowed on the ice during public skating.
Field House
  • Children under the age of 8 require the direct supervision of a person 16+ years old.
  • Photo identification is required to borrow equipment.
  • Clean indoor shoes must be worn. No bare feet.
  • Personal training/coaching is prohibited.
Climbing and Bouldering

Climbing

  • Climbers must be 13+ years old.
  • Climbers under the age of 13 will need direct supervision by a person age 16+.
  • Climbers under the age of 18 require the signature of a parent or legal guardian.
  • Waivers are required for the Field House climbing wall and Mr. Big climbing wall.
  • A belay card is required to climb Mr. Big. A belay card is obtained by passing a belay test which can be taken during our climbing drop-in hours. Cost is $5.  Belay cards are valid for one calendar year.
  • Outdoor shoes are not permitted. Proper climbing shoes and climbing equipment may be signed out with photo identification. 
  • Socks are required and can be purchased for $2.
  • Chalk is available to rent for $1. 

Bouldering

  • All ages are welcome.
  • Waivers are not required.
  • Outdoor shoes are not permitted. Proper climbing shoes may be signed out with photo identification.
  • Socks are required and can be purchased for $2.

Childminding
  • Parents are required to remain in the facility while children are in our care, unless an off site reservation has been made.
  • Off-site reservations must be made 24 hours in advance and your child must be at least 18 months of age.
  • Childminding cards are not valid for reservations.
  • All children must wear clean indoor shoes or socks. No bare feet.
  • Please provide a labelled zipper lock bag containing personal items. (e.g. diapers, bottles, snacks)
  • Bottles and snack containers must be unbreakable.
  • All snacks must be nut free.
  • For the health and safety of others, we ask that you refrain from bringing children who are ill.
