Temporary trail closures due to flooding

March 29, 2019 3:11 PM
(Red Deer, Alberta)

Two riverfront trails near the Red Deer River are closed temporarily due to localized flooding issues.

Effective immediately, the following trails are closed due to flooding:

  • the riverfront trail from the CPR Pedestrian Bridge to Bower Ponds
  • the riverfront trail from Great Chief Park (Kiwanis Picnic area) to The Heritage Ranch Pedestrian Bridge.

Ice build-up on the Red Deer River has caused isolated flooding in the parks and along the trails in these areas.

Barricades are in place to notify local trail users of the closure. Trails users are reminded not to move or cross these barricades for their safety and the safety of other park users.

Parks staff will be monitoring site conditions throughout the weekend. Any further updates will be shared on the City’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

A map of the trail closures is attached.
