Last call for residents or businesses interested in relocating the former Scout Hut

December 2, 2021 2:02 PM
(Red Deer, Alberta)

Red Deer’s Rover Cabin, the rustic former scout hut, located downtown on 53 Street and 47 Avenue is up for grabs, as long as the buyer covers the costs of relocation and removal. The structure has been deemed cost prohibitive to maintain and The City is exploring options prior to removal

Previously, the community has shown some interest in relocation. Residents or businesses interested in relocating the 400 square foot building can contact The City of Red Deer, Planning department for more information and to make arrangements for transport. If you are an individual or group interested in covering the costs, please inquire before December 22, 2021.Removal of the structure would have to be completed by April 1, 2022.

Structural and Integrity assessments were conducted for the building and the reviews did not recommend preservation. Due to cost, The City will be following the recommendation of not preserving the structure.

The hut was constructed in 1937 as a square style, one room log cabin. Inside the building, which is less than 400 square feet, you find a stone fireplace, dirt floors, and evidence of past flood and fire damage. There is also a small shed addition that has been badly fire damaged and needs to be demolished.

Interested parties that can cover the removal and relocation of the former scout hut expenses can submit inquiries to planning@reddeer.ca.
