(Red Deer, Alberta)

Help is available for Red Deerians who are at risk of, or are experiencing homelessness for the first time. Residents who fit this description are encouraged to connect with Bredin Centre for Career Advancement or Red Deer Native Friendship Society for assistance.

These organizations can provide individualized support services to improve self-sufficiency of individuals and families. Services may include: emergency housing funding, partial utility or security deposits, one-time rent or utility arrears assistance, moving expenses, limited furniture/household items, assistance with finding housing, assistance with income support applications, connection to other community supports. In addition, Red Deer Native Friendship Society offers cultural supports.

The City of Red Deer provides funding to Bredin Centre for Career Advancement and Red Deer Native Friendship Society, through a Federal Reaching Home program grant, to provide these services in Red Deer.

“As a result of the pandemic, an increased number of individuals are at risk of, or are experiencing homelessness for the first time, and we want them to know help is available through these two local organizations,” said Ryan Veldkamp, Housing and Homelessness Supports Supervisor. “The City’s goal is to assist these organizations in connecting with vulnerable individuals and families to provide support and guidance before they become chronically homeless.”
