Red Deer’s new Meet me at the Park program will visit eight neighbourhoods this summer to offer free activities and resources to residents.

Meet me at the Park events will run between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and are designed to help neighbours get connected and to provide safe, fun activities for all residents.

“We know that for almost a year and a half, many residents have been feeling disconnected from their neighbours,” said Bobby-Jo Stannard, Superintendent Community Development. “Meet me at the Park will provide an opportunity for residents to get out and reconnect with each other in a safe and fun way.”

Activities offered will vary from site to site based on the amenities available and will include a variety of options for unstructured creative play. Activities may change based on community interests. These may include:

  • Circuit courses, obstacle course
  • Scavenger hunts
  • Neighbourhood tours/walking groups/biking groups
  • Soccer/basketball/tennis/pickleball/badminton/baseball
  • Arts and crafts

“We want residents to come and have fun, but we need to keep some things in mind,” Said Stannard. “The event is rain or shine so residents need dress for the weather and remember to adhere to public health restrictions. We are in Stage Three of the province’s Open for Summer plan, but there are still some restrictions in place. We are also encouraging residents to attend the event that is closest to them so they really connect with their neighbourhoods.”

The first event is scheduled to run from July 5 to in West Park close to the activity centre located at 3811, 57 Avenue. Future event dates and locations can be found at www.reddeer.ca/parkmeetup and will also be shared on the City‘s social media pages throughout the summer.

This program is possible with the help of grant funding from the Sport Relief Fund from the Jumpstart program.
