Removal of Deadfall in the Pines area & Barrett Park Escarpment

November 12, 2021 9:13 AM
(Red Deer, Alberta)

As part of the Wildfire Management Program, The City of Red Deer’s Parks section will be working along forested areas of Pines and Barrett Park Escarpment this fall. Work will begin in mid-November with completion expected in mid-December 2021.

Parks staff will be working to selectively clear deadfall, which is fallen plant material that potentially acts as a wildfire hazard. As the work is being completed, any additional material of concern in the immediate area will also be removed to reduce the potential risk of a fire developing to an intensity that would threaten the forest as a whole.

The program is a joint effort between The City of Red Deer’s Emergency Services Department and the Parks Section. It is part of a multi-year program to minimize the risk of fire in Red Deer’s urban forest areas.

The trail segment will be open during the removal program. Please adhere to warning signs and stay clear of personnel and equipment working in this area. Thank you for your patience and cooperation while City staff undertake this important wildfire management work.
