Property Taxes due Wednesday

September 25, 2020 11:52 AM
(Red Deer, Alberta)

Red Deer property owners are reminded to get their tax payments in before the September 30 deadline on Wednesday.

Property owners are encouraged to pay in full and on time to avoid late fees. On October 1, a seven per cent penalty will be applied to any unpaid tax balances. The tax deadline and penalties do not apply to property owners who pay monthly through The City’s Tax Installment Plan (TIP).

“We recognize many residents and businesses are facing additional financial challenges due to COVID-19,” said Roxane Preedin, Controller – Property Taxation. “If property owners are unable to pay in full by September 30, we encourage them to pay off as much as they can to reduce penalties come October 1.”

Taxes can be paid in multiple ways, including by mail, through financial institutions, or in person at the Recreation Centre by cheque, cash or debit. Property owners paying through their financial institution are reminded to confirm their institution’s processing times (typically three to five business days) to ensure payments will reach The City before the deadline. Those paying by mail are reminded envelopes must be post-marked by September 30 to avoid late penalties.

In the spring, Council amended the approved Operating Budget to reduce the tax rate increase and extended the 2020 payment deadline to September 30 in recognition of the serious financial impact COVID-19 has had on residents and the business community.
