Red Deer residents who purchase and install a smart thermostat can apply for a rebate through The City of Red Deer.

The Smart Thermostat Rebate Program, developed to help Red Deerians decrease energy consumption and support them to improve energy efficiency in their homes, offers a $50 rebate to those who replace their home thermostat with a smart thermostat.

“In addition to improving home comfort, there are environmental and financial benefits to using smart thermostats,” said Phil Boehme, Community Development Coordinator. “We launched the program in 2023 and received a great response from the community so we are excited to offer this opportunity again for 2024.”

Participants in the program could see a reduction in energy use of up to 12% as well as a decrease of the non-fixed portion of their energy bills. Saving energy is one way to improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to climate change.

The Smart Thermostat Rebate program supports the energy-related goals in The City’s Environmental Master Plan by reducing Red Deerians energy use and moving towards using renewable energy sources. More information and online rebate application forms are available at www.reddeer.ca/thermostat.

Rebates are available to Red Deer residents only, and a maximum of one rebate is available per utility account. The deadline for applications for this rebate program is December 31, 2024.
