Ghosts of the Prairies
|Medium||Forged & Welded Steel|
|Site Location||Fort Normandeau|
The abstract Plains Bison represents what brought humans to this ford on the Red Deer River. Buffalo used the crossing for eons during their annual migrations and this brought First Nations peoples, followed by Metis and then the first white settlers to this and area.
The sculpture consists of layered and textured steel slabs forming it's massive front end that become entwined with textured steel rods representing leafy branches. The intent is to recognize the buffalo for the integral role it played on the prairies but has not all but disappeared in the wind.
