Heritage Ranch is entering its next chapter as a new operator has officially taken the reins. Red Deer’s cherished community destination will see the return of equestrian, restaurant and event services over the next several months, as the operator takes a staged approach to reopening.

The City of Red Deer has finalized a five-year operating agreement with Stock Yard Kitchen Ltd. for Heritage Ranch. The new operator formally took over the site May 7, 2026.

“Heritage Ranch holds a special place in our community, and we know residents have been waiting to hear what comes next,” said Sarah Tittemore, General Manager of Operations for the City of Red Deer. “This process was about finding the right fit for Heritage Ranch and developing an agreement that supports the future of this amenity as a beautiful destination that preserves the community-focused character people value.”

Stock Yard Kitchen Ltd. brings experience in both restaurant and equestrian services through the combination of two locally owned businesses. The Meraki Group, which has experience in the local restaurant industry, including State & Main, Original Joe’s and the Ponoka Golf Club’s eighteen91 restaurant, will lead restaurant, catering and event services. JR Adventures, based in the Caroline area, will provide equestrian services which are essential to Heritage Ranch’s identity and offerings.

Heritage Ranch visitors can expect the following:

  • A four-season restaurant focused on affordable, quality food and beverage service
  • Equestrian offerings, including trail and carriage rides
  • Year-round event hosting
  • Investment in and enhancement of Heritage Ranch’s rustic amenities

Visitors to Heritage Ranch will notice activity this week, as the new operator begins site preparation and transition work. However, indoor amenities, restaurant services and equestrian offerings will open in a phased approach over the next several months. Throughout this transition, the public will continue to have access to the outdoor park and public spaces of Heritage Ranch and the greater Waskasoo Park System.

“This phased approach gives Stock Yard Kitchen Ltd. the time needed to prepare the site and create a strong visitor experience,” said General Manager Tittemore. “We know residents are eager to see activity return to Heritage Ranch, and this approach will help ensure the restaurant, equestrian and event services are reintroduced in a way that reflects the character of the site.”

Early activation of the site will include reopening indoor washroom facilities and returning horses to Heritage Ranch, followed by an expansion of equestrian services, with full restaurant, catering and event-hosting services expected to return through summer and fall 2026.

As part of Red Deer’s Waskasoo Park System, Heritage Ranch consists of 217 acres of forest, green spaces, trails, playgrounds and a fishing pond. To stay updated and learn more about Heritage Ranch, please visit www.reddeer.ca/HeritageRanch.
