Community organizations across Red Deer are encouraged to apply for the Environmental Initiatives Grant to help deliver local projects that create environmental and community benefits. The program will provide grants of up to $10,000 per project to registered not-for-profit societies serving Red Deer, helping bring new ideas to life and strengthen community well-being.
This grant helps advance the vision and goals of Red Deer’s Environmental Master Plan by empowering citizens to adopt actions that enhance environmental health, foster positive relationships with nature, and increase collaboration within the community.
The Environmental Initiatives Grant offers two funding streams: the Environmental Innovation category, which supports short-term projects completed within one year, and the Environmental Investment category, designed for longer-term initiatives with a three-year funding cycle. Applications for the 2026 Environmental Innovation stream will be accepted for a six-week period via the SmartSimple online application platform. The application deadline is April 13, 2026, at 4 p.m. MST.
“Community groups across Red Deer have demonstrated what is possible when passion and environmental stewardship come together,” said Phil Boehme, Community Development Coordinator. “From downtown habitats that educate visitors on pollinator health to school gardens and seed-saving programs, we have seen inspiring outcomes that bring people closer to nature and to one another. We encourage all eligible organizations with a strong environmental vision to apply and help us continue building a greener, more sustainable community.”
Recent recipients of the grant have used funding to engage residents in biodiversity education, create shared green spaces, and promote sustainable practices that benefit people and the natural environment alike. Stories of success from the 2025 funding cycle can be found on We Are Red Deer, highlighting how local initiatives are making an impact across the city.
Registered not-for-profit societies are encouraged to begin preparing proposals for the upcoming intake. Applications and full eligibility information are available at reddeer.ca/grants.
