Toys for Tickets, The City’s annual donation collection program which supports the Red Deer Christmas Bureau, will return this November in a modified format amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Through this program, the City typically allows toy donations in lieu of parking ticket payments from November 1-30. All gifts received through the program are donated to the Christmas Bureau to help achieve the goal of ensuring no child in Red Deer wakes up without a toy on Christmas morning.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The City has revised the Toys for Tickets program in an effort to continue its contributions to the Christmas Bureau. Similar to last year, The City will make a financial donation rather than have ticket holders purchase and drop off toys. The amount of the donation will be determined based on the total value of early ticket payments (payments made within 10 days of the offence date) for City of Red Deer parking tickets issued in November 2021, to a maximum of $6,300 (the City’s average contribution to the Red Deer Christmas Bureau between 2016-2019).
“The health and wellness of all Red Deerians remains top of mind for The City,” said Amy Fengstad, Parking and Licensing Supervisor. “After a successful modified Toys for Tickets program in 2020, we’ve decided to continue with the revised format for this year. We’re asking the community to once again help us support the goal of the Red Deer Christmas Bureau of ensuring all children in Red Deer receive a gift on Christmas morning.”
Red Deerians who wish to support the Red Deer Christmas Bureau directly can contact the organization for donation options. Contact information is available on the organization’s website, www.reddeerchristmasbureau.com.
