Kick it to the Curb returns

Kick it to the Curb returns to Red Deer this weekend providing residents the opportunity to find a new home for unwanted and unused items.

This year, on the third full weekend of the month from May to October, residents are encouraged to kick their unwanted items to the curb.

“Residents love the Kick it to the Curb program and we are happy to bring it back again for 2022,” said Janet Whitesell, Waste Management Superintendent. “Similar to past years, Waskasoo Environmental Education Society will be offering their Trash to Treasure Swap Meet at the Kerry Wood Nature Centre for anyone who would rather not put small, unwanted items on their curb or whose home doesn’t have a curb.”

Participants are encouraged to thoroughly clean items, use good hand hygiene, maintain at least 2 metre distance from anyone outside of their household, and to not participate if anyone in your household is feeling ill.

The first weekend is May 21, 22, and 23. Items should be clearly identified with a “free” label so others can find a new life for them. Items that are always a hit include books, DVDs, furniture, and tools. To see a link to items that should be avoided, like child car seats, visit reddeer.ca/kickit.

Mark your calendars for Kick It to the Curb weekends: May 21-23, June 18-19, July 16-17, August 20-21, September 17-18, and October 15-16.
