City Council Meeting Recap

The following decisions were made at today’s regular City Council Meeting.

Kingsgate Land Use Bylaw amendments passes first reading:

  • Council gave first reading to an application that was submitted to rezone the southwest corner of 8040 - 50 Avenue in the Kingsgate neighbourhood to allow for future multi-family residential units, and to expand the commercial zoning area along the northwestern edge. The land is currently undeveloped. These bylaws will return to Council with a Public Hearing at the Monday, June 12 Council Meeting.
  • Following an independent investigation stemming from a complaint received by City Council in March 2023, Councillor Kraymer Barnstable, by a vote of 5 to 2, was found in breach City Council’s Code of Conduct Bylaw with two of six allegations founded when City Council accepted the findings in the investigator’s report.

Council endorses Midsized Cities Initiatives Alberta Community Partnership grant:

  • The Midsized Cities Mayors Caucus (MCMC) submitted an application to the Government of Alberta for an Alberta Community Partnership Grant in order to action the “Unlocking the Full Potential of Alberta’s Midsized Cities Initiative”.
  • The MCMC Executive asked for Council endorsement from member municipalities to enhance the applications likelihood of success. Today, Council endorsed the Alberta Community Partnership grant application to fund the four phases of the Unlocking the Full Potential of Alberta’s Midsized Cities Initiative.

Municipal Features Naming Policy – tabled:

  • A new municipal features naming policy was discussed by City Council today, but further comment and final approval was tabled to return at a future Council meeting.

Code of Conduct matter:
