Red Deer, Alta. – On Jan. 21, 2026, at 7:52 a.m. Red Deer RCMP responded to a break and enter in progress at a residence in the Highland Green Estates area of Red Deer. Officers arrived almost immediately and observed a masked male inside the residence.
Police gained entrance to the residence and the male fled through a balcony door attempting to evade officers. The male was intercepted by police and was arrested without further incident.
Investigation by police confirmed the male had forced entry through the balcony door and the incident was targeted.
RCMP have charged Red Deer resident Robert Mattinson (33) with:
- Break and enter with intent
- Possession of break-in instruments
- Disguised with intent to commit and offence
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Uttering threats against a person
Mattinson was brought before a Justice of the Peace and was released on conditions. His next court date is set for Feb. 11, 2026, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
