Red Deer tax notices are on their way

(Red Deer, Alberta)

Red Deer property tax notices are being sent out today and will arrive in property owners’ mailboxes and MyCity accounts soon.

This year, Council approved a 3.97 per cent increase to The City’s municipal portion of property taxes. However, tax notices also include requisitions collected on behalf of the Province, including education tax and seniors housing. With a 12.83 per cent increase in the provincial education requisition, the total increase shown on tax notices for an average residential property is higher than The City’s increase alone. For residential properties with an average assessment change, the average total increase is 5.49 per cent.

Property tax payments are due Tuesday, June 30, 2026. Unpaid taxes are subject to penalty beginning July 1, 2026.

Payments can be made through a financial institution, by mail, or in person at City Hall by cash, cheque, or debit. Property owners are encouraged to allow time for bank processing, as payments are applied based on the processing date, not the date the payment is submitted.

Property owners can also pay their taxes through the Tax Instalment Plan (TIP). TIP allows property owners to spread their annual property tax payments over monthly pre-authorized withdrawals, making budgeting easier and helping reduce the risk of late payment penalties. Property owners have until June 15 to join TIP for the current year. Details are available at reddeer.ca/TIP.

Anyone who may not be able to pay their taxes in full by the deadline is encouraged to pay as much as they can to reduce penalties and to contact City staff to discuss payment options.

More information about Red Deer’s property tax program is available on The City’s website, reddeer.ca/tax. Property owners are encouraged to view the following resources to learn more.

Property owners who do not receive their tax notice by May 30 should check their MyCity account or contact The City’s tax team at 342-8126 or tax@reddeer.ca. Note that The City may not have updated ownership information for recent real estate transactions.
