Red Deer, Alberta – With street sweeping along major road networks wrapping up, residential street sweeping is set to begin Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
Residents can help the street sweeping process run smoothly by moving their cars off the roads when they see “No Parking” signs placed on their street. Crews will start with sweeping all Grey Routes, followed by Green Routes. This means you’ll see street sweepers in your neighbourhoods twice in the coming weeks. This approach allows residents to find a nearby option to park their vehicles while their street is being swept. Cars left on the street will be ticketed and towed.
“Street sweeping is an important part of keeping our roads clean and safe after the winter season,” said DJ Brough, Roads Superintendent with the City of Red Deer. “Residents can help crews do the best job possible by moving vehicles, basketball hoops, curb ramps and other items off the street before sweepers arrive.”
Residents and business owners can also help by sweeping debris from sidewalks in front of their properties onto the road before crews arrive. If cart collection falls on the same day as street sweeping, residents should place carts out as usual and City crews will work around them.
Pedestrians and motorists are reminded to stay a safe distance from street sweeping equipment, obey posted signs and slow down when passing maintenance workers. Sweepers can create flying debris, so residents are asked to stay at least three car lengths away from equipment.
Street sweeping schedules are weather dependent and may change as conditions require. Residents can check the schedule and confirm their route at reddeer.ca/streetsweeping.
