Air Quality

Improving air quality and reducing harmful emissions is one goal of the Environmental Master Plan.

The Government of Alberta's Air Quality Health Index measures air quality in our community and reports the risk to our health. You can also download their handy app.

You can protect our air by reducing vehicle idling, making your home more energy efficient, and choosing different modes of transportation like walking, cycling, carpooling and transit.

Red Deer has two air quality monitoring stations run by Parkland Airshed Management Zone (PAMZ) and Alberta Environment and Parks. One is on Riverside Drive and one is in Lancaster.

PAMZ is a non-profit society that develops and implements strategies to address air quality concerns in west central Alberta, which includes Red Deer as the largest urban centre within the PAMZ boundaries.
