EMS Service Delivery: What You Need to Know

The City of Red Deer is reviewing potential changes to how Emergency Medical Services (ambulance) are delivered in our community.

This follows direction from the Province of Alberta, which is changing how EMS is funded across the province.

What is happening?

The Province has indicated that:

  • EMS funding will be based on a standardized model
  • Municipalities may need to cover additional costs to maintain integrated fire-medic services

What does this mean for Red Deer?

At this time:

  • No decisions have been made
  • The City is reviewing options and impacts
  • A report is expected to come before City Council on May 5, 2026

What happens next?

On May 5, 2026, administration will provide a report to City Council related to costs and options about the changes surrounding EMS (ambulance). City Council will:

  • Review options
  • Consider financial and service impacts
  • Make a decision

Our focus

Right now, The City of Red Deer is pulling together detailed cost information and options to bring forward to City Council. This work is meant to help Council make an informed decision about how best to move forward, with a clear understanding of what EHS-Alberta is proposing and what it could mean for the community.

We are focused on:

  • Maintaining reliable emergency response
  • Understanding the impacts before making decisions
  • Sharing clear and accurate information
