RTD Utilities, on behalf of The City of Red Deer, will be replacing aging residential streetlight infrastructure in Westpark and Sunnybrook from August to October 2026, weather permitting. Work includes replacing streetlight poles, bases, wiring and related infrastructure to improve safety and reliability. Residents can expect temporary parking restrictions, short-term access impacts, construction noise, and occasional temporary outages while work is underway.

What type of work will happen?

Replacement of existing streetlights, including removal of old poles, bases, and wiring, followed by installation of new streetlight infrastructure.

When will this work take place?

Work is expected to take place from August to October 2026. Replacement work will take place Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for approximately five weeks, weather permitting.

Is there anything I need to do before work begins?

Residents are encouraged to:

  • watch for posted signage
  • move vehicles from signed areas
  • use caution around work zones
What can I expect during the streetlight replacement process?

Residents can expect:

  • Construction noise and equipment in the area
  • Temporary no‑parking zones during working hours
  • Short‑term impacts to access for homes and businesses
  • Disturbed landscaping during construction until restoration work is complete.
  • Vehicles parked in no‑parking zones may be towed at the owner’s expense. If no‑parking signs are placed on Friday evening, please remove vehicles from the signed area before 7 a.m. Monday.

Temporary outages may occur while replacement work is underway, but crews will work to minimize disruptions.
