Red Deer, Alta. – Red Deer RCMP seized unstamped cigarettes at a local retailer after investigating sales of illegal tobacco.
Red Deer RCMP completed an investigation of illegal tobacco sales after receiving information from the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC). On Mar. 11, 2026, the Red Deer RCMP executed a search warrant at a business located on Gaetz Ave. in downtown Red Deer, Alta.
As a result of the warrant, fifty-three cartons of unstamped cigarettes were seized.
Sulaiman Al Mohalhal, a 40-year-old male resident of Red Deer, was charged with:
- Possession of unstamped tobacco for the purpose of selling.
Al Mohalhal was released on an Undertaking with conditions and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on Apr. 29, 2026.
While the sales of unstamped cigarettes may not seem like a particular harmful crime, the sale of illicit tobacco has real impacts on our community. These products may not meet health and safety standards, and their sale undermines the local businesses that operate legitimately.
