To receive a watering timer rebate, you must:

• be a city of Red Deer resident
• have a City of Red Deer utility (water) account
• purchase a new watering timer in 2025
• install and operate the timer at a property located within the city of Red Deer
• include a copy of the receipt of your watering timer purchase. The receipt must clearly indicate the name of the store, product name, price and date of purchase. The applicant's name must be clearly written on the receipt.
• include a photo of the installed watering timer with your application

Rebates can take up to 12 weeks to appear in the utility account.

A watering timer, also known as a hose bib timer, connects to your hose bib and automates your garden or lawn watering system. It works much like a kitchen timer by setting the time and letting it do the work for you.

• A watering timer helps save water (and money) through programming. You can set up the timer to water your lawn or garden on specific days and the exact amount of time you want it to be watered for.
•  It saves time. You won’t need to go outside and turn your hose on or off because the programming will do it for you. This gives you more time to spend on gardening or other summer activities.

• Watering too often can lead to poor growing conditions and disease. Water only when your lawn needs it, usually no more than once per week if there is no rainfall.

• Ensure you are watering deep enough. You should apply at least 2.5 cm of water. Put out an empty can of tuna or pet food to measure how much you have watered. Once it is full you’ll know you’ve watered enough!

• Water in the morning or in the evening. This will prevent water lost from evaporation and wind.

• Consider the practice of grasscycling.
