Gaetz Avenue bridge replacement project

From February to November 2026, the bridge which runs along Gaetz Avenue between 45 and 43 Street will be replaced. To complete this work, rotating road closures will be required. Motorists should expect traffic delays as traffic will be reduced to two lanes throughout the project. Please watch for onsite merging pattern signage.

From April 12 to May 8, a four-week full closure will be required as the existing bridge is demolished, and the temporary bridge is installed. The current structure is in poor condition and cannot be removed in stages without compromising public safety. Completing this work within a full closure allows crews to work more efficiently and helps reduce overall construction timelines.

Motorists heading south on Gaetz Avenue are encouraged to use Taylor Drive via Ross Street to avoid delays. Clearly marked detours will also be in place.

Access to businesses will be maintained throughout the closure:

  • Creekside Professional Building will be accessible via 43 Street, with temporary two-way traffic south of the creek
  • Businesses north of Waskasoo Creek near 45 Street remain accessible, with exit via the back lane

Drivers are reminded to follow posted signage and use caution in construction areas.

Why is the bridge being replaced?

Built in 1912, and widened in 1957, the bridge has come to the end of its lifecycle and needs to be replaced. While this disruption is significant, a full closure will speed up the overall project timelines and reduce impacts to nearby businesses over the long term. Businesses remain accessible throughout the project.
